To the choirmaster. A Psalm of David.

^3 (A)Then the chief priests and the elders of the people gathered in ^(B)the palace of the high priest, whose name was ^(C)Caiaphas, ^4 (D)and plotted together in order to arrest Jesus by stealth and kill him.

Judas to Betray Jesus

^14 (A)Then one of the twelve, whose name was ^(B)Judas Iscariot, went to the chief priests ¹⁵ and said, “What will you give me if I deliver him over to you?” And they ^(C)paid him ^(D)thirty pieces of silver. ¹⁶ And from that moment he sought an opportunity ^(E)to betray him.

⁵⁹ Now the chief priests and the whole council^{[a] (A)}were seeking false testimony against Jesus that they might put him to death, ⁶⁰ but they found none, ^(B)though many false witnesses came forward. At last ^(C)two came forward ⁶¹ and said, “This man said, ^(D)‘I am able to ^(E)destroy the temple of God, and to rebuild it in three days.’” ⁶² And the high priest stood up and said, “Have you no answer to make? What is it that these men testify against you?”^{[b] 63 (F)}But Jesus remained silent. ^(G)And the high priest said to him, ^(H)“I adjure you by ^(I)the living God, ^(J)tell us if you are ^(K)the Christ, ^(L)the Son of God.” ⁶⁴ Jesus said to him, ^(M)“You have said so. But I tell you, from now on ^(N)you will see the Son of Man ^(O)seated at the right hand of Power and ^(P)coming on the clouds of heaven.” ⁶⁵ Then the high priest ^(Q)tore his robes and said, ^(R)“He has uttered blasphemy. What further witnesses do we need? You have now heard his blasphemy. ⁶⁶ What is your judgment?” They answered, ^(S)“He deserves death.” ⁶⁷ Then ^(T)they spit in his face ^(U)and ^(V)struck him. And some slapped him, ⁶⁸ saying, “Prophesy to us, you ^(W)Christ! Who is it that struck you?”

² And behold, there was a great earthquake, for ^(A)an angel of the Lord descended from heaven and came and rolled back the stone and sat on it.

⁵ But the angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you seek Jesus who was crucified. ⁶ He is not here, for he has risen, ^(A)as he said. Come, see the place where he^[a] lay.

¹⁸ And Jesus came and said to them, ^(A)“All authority ^(B)in heaven and on earth has been given to me. ^19 (C)Go therefore and ^(D)make disciples of ^(E)all nations, ^(F)baptizing them ^(G)in^{[a] (H)}the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, ²⁰ teaching them ^(I)to observe all that ^(J)I have commanded you. And behold, ^(K)I am with you always, to ^(L)the end of the age.”

² For you yourselves are fully aware that ^(A)the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night. ³ While people are saying, “There is peace and security,” then ^(B)sudden destruction will come upon them ^(C)as labor pains come upon a pregnant woman, and they will not escape. ⁴ But you ^(D)are not in darkness, brothers, for that day to surprise you like a thief. ⁵ For you are all ^(E)children^[a] of light, children of the day. We are not of the night or of the darkness.

¹⁹ For this is a gracious thing, when, ^(A)mindful of God, one endures sorrows while suffering unjustly. ²⁰ For what credit is it if, when you sin and are beaten for it, you endure? But ^(B)if when you do good and suffer for it you endure, this is a gracious thing in the sight of God. ²¹ For ^(C)to this you have been called, ^(D)because Christ also suffered for you, ^(E)leaving you an example, so that you might follow in his steps. ^22 (F)He committed no sin, neither was deceit found in his mouth. ^23 (G)When he was reviled, he did not revile in return; when he suffered, he did not threaten, ^(H)but continued entrusting himself to him who judges justly.
